When You Mess with the Bull You Get the Horns

Last week I was able to shoot the Professional Bull Riders’ Challenger Championship at the Gwinnett Arena in Duluth. Nothing but fire, dirt and a little bit of blood between man and beast.

Some News in General

Here are a few assignments from the past month. I’ve covered a church arson fire in Duluth, a Gwinnett Sheriff’s Department K-9 funeral, kids jumping from Settles Bridge in Buford and families trying to get school supplies from the Salvation Army in Lawrenceville to name a few. More to come…

Burnin’ Down the House
by jtphillips on Apr.30, 2009, under News, Photojournalism
Around 5:40 this morning Gwinnett firefighters responded to a two alarm blaze in downtown Norcross where they found a house over 100 years old fully involved in flames. Over 50 firefighters responded and the house partially collapsed. I arrived around 9:30 this morning and crews were still working on extinguishing hot spots. Thankfully no one was injured.

Here are a few shots from sports assignments over the past couple of days. Baseball and soccer, two of Spring’s favorite sports…throw in some track and field and you get a trifecta.

With a little trial and error Thursday night I got to take a few photos that I really enjoyed shooting. If you have noticed most of the lights on the major interstates have been shut off to try and save their respective counties some money. The newly improved 85-316 interchange has greatly increased traffic flow for Gwinnett however it seems that there is some cause for concern for safety in regards to the decision to shut off these lights. So it seems, for the time being at least, that they have been switched back on.

Over the Weekend and Through the Woods on Ice

I shot a bunch of assignments over the weekend and thought I would recap some of the highlights. The Gwinnett Gladiators played the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday night. Then after four days of rain the Yellow River in Snellville was in danger of overflowing its banks so I went searching for a shot to illustrate it and found Paula Brown a resident who lived on the river that was nice enough to allow me access to her backyard to shoot. And despite the rain, Suwanee opened its new city hall on Saturday.
