During my time at the Gwinnett Daily Post we have to shoot a lot of athlete portraits. Here are a few that I am proud of.

Gooooooooooo Dawgs

I don’t usually get attached to games but I haven’t been back to Sanford Stadium since graduation. So having been almost a decade, it was a little surreal. I also haven’t really gotten to see a Georgia game in almost 4 years due to living in the northeast. So Saturday I was able to shoot the UGA-South Carolina game and it was loud and amazing.

Last weekend marked the start of the new football season for Gwinnett County. In celebration of this here is a collection of photos from four games on Friday night and Saturday. Long live the Friday Night Lights.

by jtphillips on Jul.20, 2009, under Photojournalism, Sports
Sunday a friend asked me to help out with her charity golf tournament at Chastain Park in Atlanta. Eight teams participated to help raise money for the Luekemia and Lymphoma Society. If you would like to order photos from this event please contact Jonathan at phillyd1977@gmail.com or 770-356-2250. A portion of the proceeds from sales will go to Team In Training and the society. Enjoy!

A Smattering of Sports

Here are a few shots from sports assignments over the past couple of days. Baseball and soccer, two of Spring’s favorite sports…throw in some track and field and you get a trifecta.

Lightning Strikes Twice…or…Gwinnett Braves Home Opener Week
by jtphillips on Apr.24, 2009, under Feature, Photojournalism, Sports
So the Gwinnett Braves have finally started their season. The minor league feeder team has a brand new stadium in Buford and a brand new look. The home opener week has been filled with ups and downs and I have been there covering it for the Post three times so far. Be forewarned this is a longer post but if you are a baseball fan, or even if you aren’t, I hope you enjoy.

For all of you soccer fans out there here is a few photos from the Peachtree Ridge-Grayson girls soccer game on Tuesday. This was the first round of the state playoffs tournament and Grayson took the 3-2 win over the Lions.

Run Baby Run

I shot the second day of the Gwinnett County Track & Field Championships this afternoon. Unfortunately the field events for varsity were already completed so this is all events from the track. Still exciting though and Collins Hill girls scraped past Parkview for the overall team win. This will make their eighth straight county championship. The Parkview Panthers boys team on the other slaughtered their competition to win the team championship.

Over the Weekend and Through the Woods on Ice
by jtphillips on Apr.01, 2009, under Feature, News, Photojournalism, Sports
I shot a bunch of assignments over the weekend and thought I would recap some of the highlights. The Gwinnett Gladiators played the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday night. Then after four days of rain the Yellow River in Snellville was in danger of overflowing its banks so I went searching for a shot to illustrate it and found Paula Brown a resident who lived on the river that was nice enough to allow me access to her backyard to shoot. And despite the rain, Suwanee opened its new city hall on Saturday.

Head Games

Tonight I covered the Parkview vs Brookwood girls soccer game. Parkview scored their first goal early in the game and then added three more in the second half to win 4-0.
