Here are a few assignments from the past month. I’ve covered a church arson fire in Duluth, a Gwinnett Sheriff’s Department K-9 funeral, kids jumping from Settles Bridge in Buford and families trying to get school supplies from the Salvation Army in Lawrenceville to name a few. More to come…

Burnin’ Down the House

Around 5:40 this morning Gwinnett firefighters responded to a two alarm blaze in downtown Norcross where they found a house over 100 years old fully involved in flames. Over 50 firefighters responded and the house partially collapsed. I arrived around 9:30 this morning and crews were still working on extinguishing hot spots. Thankfully no one was injured.

A Brave New World

Fire Explorers are high school students age 14 - 19 that are interested in becoming full fledged firefighters later on in life. Gwinnett County has a class of 18 explorers this year that are learning those necessary skills. Explorers learn the same techniques used by the full time men and women of the department. Instead of going on Spring Break this past week a handful of the explorers decided that they would drill for an upcoming competition with other explorer programs around the state.
