Here are a few shots from sports assignments over the past couple of days. Baseball and soccer, two of Spring’s favorite sports…throw in some track and field and you get a trifecta.

I shot the second day of the Gwinnett County Track & Field Championships this afternoon. Unfortunately the field events for varsity were already completed so this is all events from the track. Still exciting though and Collins Hill girls scraped past Parkview for the overall team win. This will make their eighth straight county championship. The Parkview Panthers boys team on the other slaughtered their competition to win the team championship.

Tonight I covered the Parkview vs Brookwood girls soccer game. Parkview scored their first goal early in the game and then added three more in the second half to win 4-0.

An Excerpt from Alex

I am shooting a long term project on a high school junior named Alex. Alex was placed in a wheelchair after a car wreck left him paralyzed. He spent a month recovering from his injuries at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. A few weeks ago Alex joined his school’s track team and today he participated in his second meet. Today was also the first time Alex got to compete against other students in wheelchairs. Alex competed in the 200 and 800 yard dashes and the shot put placing first in both of the track events and second in the field. Alex and his family have been very generous to allow me into their lives so here is an excerpt from the longer story.

Unfortunately the Bainbridge girls team did not fair as well as the boys. They were stomped by Southwest Dekalb during the semi-final round of the state tournament at the Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth this afternoon. I shot this game as well as the boys game against Tucker for the Albany Herald, a sister paper of the Gwinnett Daily Post.

This evening I shot the AAAA GHSA Bainbridge - Tucker game for the Albany Herald, a sister paper of the Gwinnett Daily Post. This semi-final round was played at the Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth and was an entertaining game. I really like the fact that this game and the girls’ game went from a fairly standard assignment to something really fun to photograph due to the fact that I got to shoot from the catwalk!

…I like the way they dribble up and down the court.

Another assignment for the Gwinnett Daily Post shot tonight. This time the first round for the boys Region AAAAA State Tournament. Peachtree Ridge and Brookwood…it was a close game through the first half but Peachtree Ridge wound up taking home the win.
